Virtual Classroom
The Capitol Visitor Center offers a variety of virtual educational programs that bring the history and work of Congress to life. These interactive experiences, tailored to different grade levels, explore the people, places and ideas that have shaped representative democracy in the United States.
Capitol Symbols
Grade Level: K-6
Duration: 30 minutes
Students will discover the meaning and history of symbols appearing in Capitol art and architecture. U.S. Capitol Visitor Center educators use images, storytelling, and touchable objects to convey the meaning and purpose of what we see around us at the Capitol.

Grade Level: 6-12
Duration: 60 minutes
Your students can experience what it’s like to be a Member of Congress. Spend 60 minutes with a U.S. Capitol Visitor Center educator for a live simulation where students examine both sides of an issue, take a stand, vote on the issue, and then discuss the impact with classmates. The issue is based on historical legislation considered and voted on in Congress.
Debates of the Constitutional Convention of 1787
Grade Level: 6-12
Duration: 60 minutes
Spend time analyzing the plans, debates and compromises forged during the creation of the U.S. government. Students roleplay as delegates at the 1787 convention and vote for plans considered for the Constitution.
