Halls of the Senate

Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Duration: 45 minutes

Italian-American artist Constantino Brumidi’s best known painting is the “Apotheosis of George Washington high above the Rotunda on the inside of the Capitol Dome. He also painted corridors and committee rooms throughout the Capitol and tied classical styles with American history and nature. See his work in the Senate Wing of the Capitol and learn about his life and art. (This tour does not visit the Senate Chamber.)  Ask about the availability of free passes at the information desk in Emancipation Hall.

Votes for Women

Monday-Friday at 12 p.m.

Duration: 45 minutes

It took the work of generations of women to get the right to vote—from Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony to Ida B. Wells, Alice Paul and Inez Milholland. Learn about these women and others as we explore the Rotunda, National Statuary Hall and Emancipation Hall. Ask about the availability of free passes at the information desk in Emancipation Hall.
 

Indigenous Peoples in Capitol Art

Monday-Friday at 1 p.m.

Duration: 45 minutes

The Capitol’s art collection and the way America sees its indigenous peoples have evolved over time. Consider and discuss some of the changes on the CVC’s newest tour. Ask about the availability of free passes at the Information Desk in Emancipation Hall.

Heroes of Civil Rights

Monday-Friday at 3 p.m.

Duration: 45 minutes

What do Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass and Charles Sumner have in common? They all fought for an end to slavery and the equality and freedom of all Americans. Hear about their extraordinary lives and how they shaped the path from slavery to civil rights. The tour includes Emancipation Hall and the Old Senate Chamber. Ask about the availability of free passes at the Information Desk in Emancipation Hall.
