In order to allow for the installation of scaffolding and floor, statuary, and artwork protection in conjunction with the Dome Restoration Project, the Rotunda of the Capitol will be closed from Monday, July 27 through Monday, September 7. While the Rotunda is unavailable for tours, an alternate tour route will be provided. The Capitol Visitor Center is open during the closure of the Rotunda and will offer special activities which do not require advance reservations. H.R. 737, Appropriation for Sundry Civil Expenses of the Government for the year ending June 30th, 1867

The amendment to this appropriations act authorized printing of the first volume of the Medical and Surgical History of the War of Rebellion and a separate statistical publication. Under the secretary of war, the surgeon general oversaw the medical research—which concluded in 1888 with six detailed, illustrated volumes covering every aspect of Civil War military medicine.
