Sumner vs. Brooks Silver Goblet, ca. 1856
This engraved silver goblet was a gift to South Carolina Representative Preston Brooks from his home district for caning anti-slavery Senator Charles Sumner from Massachusetts. He was regarded as a hero in the South for his actions.
