Congressional Row, in the U. S. House of Representatives, Midnight of Friday, February 5th, 1858
This illustration depicts the fight that broke out late one night on the House floor. Arguments over the expansion of slavery into Western territories escalated to outright violence. In the lower left, John Potter of Wisconsin has grabbed the wig of William Barksdale from Mississippi.
