Capitol Dome Design, 1859
Architect Thomas U. Walter’s revised design for the new Capitol Dome shows a double Dome similar to the Pantheon in Paris, which he visited in 1838. The outer Dome was scaled to the building’s exterior, while the smaller inner Dome was sized to the Rotunda’s proportions.
