General Montgomery Meigs, ca. 1860-1865
Montgomery Meigs, an army engineer, had a strong interest in classical art and architecture. He was also a great administrator, a skill that served him well in his roles both as the Capitol extension engineer and as Quartermaster General for the Union army.
